By start-app, 02 - 02 - 2010Android is the Google operative system for embedded systems mostly used in smartphones. Since it is open and connection oriented, it provides a lot of posibilities developing mobile services.
Released in November 5th of 2007, Android hasn’t given up increasing in the smartphone market. According to the statistics provided by Admob on December 31th of 2009, Android reached a share of 27% in USA and a 8% in Western Europe. That means more than 300% growth during last year.
There are several devices running Android. These ones are the most popular:
- HTC Magic
- HTC Hero
- Motorola Droid, 250,000 units sold in first week
- Nexus One, Google phone.
Android provides a development kit which let us control every new technology in the devices such as communications capabilities (Bluetooth, WiFi, HSPA,…) or sensors (temperature, AGPS, acelerometers, multitouch screens,…).
